We’re finally here! This week has been a whirlwind! Between running my first New York City marathon, balancing our family and friends in town, tackling major work events and packing for vacation… I think Patrick and I are spent. Good thing we’ll have a nice, long (looooooong) flight to catch up on sleep and rest up for our travels.
And there’s always time for blogging, right?
One of my favorite parts of vacation comes long before you’re suited and booted for the flight. I love to research, plan, draft multiple iterations of lists and lay out all my necessities before assembling my suitcase or travel pack. I find joy in the little things like print copies of my license and passport, exchange money and charging all my battery packs. I live for the “prep”! It must be the PR brain in me…
This year Patrick and I have develop a super nerdy and insanely detailed itinerary that includes all our confirmation numbers, reservation details, and points of contact. Since we’re meeting Ian, my brother, in Chiang Mai, we thought it was extremely important to align on the details to ensure we don’t miss each other in transit. So, our trusty itinerary was born and will now serve as our bible over the next week and a half.
While I firmly believe in leaving room for “play-it-by-ear”/spontaneous activities during vacation, I also think it’s equally important to have most of the big stuff taken care of before takeoff. My worst fear is arriving in a destination city only to look at one another for two hours trying to decide who wants to do what…
We will fly from JFK to Tokyo, before hitching our ride to Bangkok. We’re planning to rest up in our hotel for a few hours before traipsing through Bangkok. We’ll board an overnight train to Chiang Mai where we’ll be spending a few days exploring the city via bike and TukTuk. We’ve arranged for a cooking class and some quality time with elephants while we’re at it! Our trip will continue with some time in heaven (aka Koh Lanta), where we’ll paddle through the Andaman Sea, drink some delicious cocktails and hopefully hop on a few boat rides too.
We are so looking forward to this upcoming adventure and cannot wait to share our stories and photos.
Stay tuned for more… Thailand here we come!

Mags I love the blog already, especially the photos you have added with the itinerary. Thanks for a wonderful weekend in NYC and good on you and Patrick for continuing the blog. Love you Dad!
Mags you better leave the motorbike driving to the boys, they drive like madmen all around Thailand. Brother Tim is down here in Dayton @ brother Dan’s getting dental work done with Lynn and he can’t believe the quality of photos that Patrick has posted.
