Beaches, booze and burns!

Though the plan was to sleep in on Thursday morning, our body clocks betrayed us and we were up with the sun.

Ko Lanta’s beaches sparkle beautifully in the morning, when the tide is in and the waves are crashing.

Patrick couldn’t resist the opportunity to capture some solid pictures on his new camera, so he and I made our way to the water before breakfast.

We caught up with Ian back at Mook Lanta over eggs, toast and coffee. With our swimsuits on, sunscreen lathered and water bottles filled, we took off for the short hike to Relax Bay – where a calm beachfront and blazing sun awaited us.

Around 2:30pm, after multiple rounds of reapplication of sunscreen, we noticed our skin started to redden under the brutal Thai rays. So, we retreated to our upgraded air con suite and showered off the day’s sweat and grime.

After a quick pow-wow with the staff at Mook Lanta, we decided to venture to the southern coast of the island for sunset.

We parked our butts on the edge of the beach at a cooking school/restaurant for appetizers and cocktails. We sipped, munched and waited for the day to slip into night.

As the sun fell behind the horizon, storms moved across the ocean and we made our way to the famous “Yang Garden” restaurant for dinner. Wow! Just wow!

The candle lit pathway led us to the most tranquil, and stunningly decorated restaurant we’d seen in Thailand yet. The staff greeted us with smiles and helped us to our seats, where we ordered a second round of cocktails (the place was far too classy for Chang beers… Heehee).

Dinner included an order of Thai BBQ ribs, two orders of the rare Ahi tuna, coupled with feta and roasted pumpkin, couscous with lime yoghurt, and gnocchi tossed in red pepper and bacon. It was a top notch foodie experience that we all enjoyed to the max!

For all travelers planning a trip to Ko Lanta in the near future… Trip Adviser does not lie… and Yang Garden is a must. 🙂

More tomorrow with details on our trip to Phi Phi Island for sun, sand and snorkeling on one of Thailand’s most beautiful beaches.
