Suited and Booted

Suited and Booted

(A post for my fellow females and fashionistas)

The great Karl Lagerfeld once said, “One is never over-dressed or under-dressed with a Little Black Dress.” Well folks, I hope Karl was right because I currently have three Little Black Dresses crammed into my RTW pack.

Difficult does not even begin to explain the packing process for this trip. As a female who does consider herself to be somewhat fashionable, I was tasked with identifying essentials for six countries, various climates and one backpack (for 20 days). Are you serious?

I don’t consider myself to be a “girly-girl”; I’m not high-maintenance in the traditional sense of the word; I can absolutely get by with an every-other-day/every-few-day(s) shower; and I don’t need to have the most expensive, designer clothes on my back to feel confident. That said, I certainly felt like a diva this past weekend when packing for our trip.

Where should we go?

Where should we go?

Choosing a route can be a challenge
Where would you go if you could go anywhere?

This past week has been busy with final preparations for the trip: booking ground transportation, planning fun excursions, restaurant reservations, etc. We’re getting excited! It’s hard to believe that we’ve been planning this trip for almost a year now…

One thing that makes our trip unique is that we booked using Round the World (RTW) tickets. Every major airline alliance offers these, and they can be an inexpensive way to visit many locations across different continents in a single trip. Booking a RTW ticket does have some associated restrictions, though:

  • Must fly continuously in one direction around the world (East or West; we chose East)
  • Limited number of stops (six, in our case)
  • Can only fly on partner airlines (we’re on Delta’s SkyTeam)

We also imposed our own rule when selecting stops: neither of us could have visited before.

Two for Takeoff

Two for Takeoff

Good morning friends and family. We are officially 14 days away from our round-the-world (RTW) trip, which means it’s the perfect time to introduce you to our blog. WELCOME! While blogging may prove to be a challenge for us as we navigate city after city in relatively short order, we wanted to be sure that each of you had the opportunity to follow us along the way. We’ll plan to share pictures and stories of the crazy things we do and see, the wonderful and interesting people we hope to meet, and the epic “fails” that are sure to ensue.
